This portion of the Perth Road north of Westport has many sections
of great beauty.

Breakfast
in the sun in early spring is nice, even if you have to move
the table to find a sunny place. |
|

Early morning can present you with some striking colours here
at Mesa Springs. Of course autumn colours enhance all the scenery
in Eastern Ontario. |

December,
2004, brought a lot of freezing rain followed by sticky snow,
more rain, and more snow. The result was a real winter wonderland
in Frontenac County. This scene is from the sugar bush at Mesa
Springs.
'The woods are
lovely, dark and deep.
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep'
Robert Frost

Sometimes
winter storms cause severe damage. The white birch in this yard
will recover, but right now many have limbs that are frozen
to the ground.
'When I see birches
bend to left and right
Across the lines of straighter darker trees,
I like to think some boy's been swinging them.
But swinging doesn't bend them down to stay.
Ice-storms do that. Often you must have seen them
Loaded with ice a sunny winter morning'
Robert Frost

The
contrasting leafy colours of the different trees enhance the
autumn leaf show at Mesa Springs.

The spruce is a majestic tree. They are much better at thrusting
away nature's efforts at destroying them. Nearby pine trees
with this snowload suffered many broken limbs.

Almost
no leaves in the forest are as beautiful as the eastern red
maple.
|

|
Milkweed
is a horrible weed to have in your fields. It multiplies quickly.
It has a long root that is difficult to kill with cultivation.
But it does have its beauty, as seen in this photograph.

This
rural scene of maples on a hill is a familiar site across the
rolling hills of Frontenac County.

The
pheasant is a beautiful bird. This pheasant arrived in our yard
and stayed for a week or two. |
|

Temperatures
plummeted and the ice and snow storm left its mark. In this
case the mark was very pretty. |

Winter
snow covers the ground protecting the vegetation and making
a warm blanket for the little creatures. This snowy lane is
a work of art. |
